MATERIAL & CARE

 Gold Vermeil

Gold Vermeil jewellery has Sterling Silver(S925) as its base material. It uses a thicker type of gold plating that is more than 2.5 microns and is at least 10k (karats) or higher. This means that Gold Vermeil jewellery has a minimum of 41.7% gold. The Gold Vermeil jewellery listed on our stores are usually between 14-18k

Care:

To extend the life of your gold plated and vermeil jewelry, avoid wearing when washing hands, showering, applying lotion, using harsh cleaning supplies or working out. To clean, buff gently with a soft and dry 100% cotton cloth or a microfiber cloth. Do not use jewelry cleaner on gold plated jewelry.

925 Sterling Silver

925 Sterling Silver is an alloy made of 92.5% pure Silver and 7.5% Copper. We plate our Silver jewelry in rhodium, which gives it extra shine and durability. Rhodium is one of the costliest precious metals due to its rarity.

Care:

Sterling silver will tarnish over time. Silver reacts to moisture and chemicals in the air such as sulphur (in the same way it can react to perfumes and lotions on our skin). It is a completely normal and natural reaction. Silver jewellery remains at its shiny best when worn daily or kept in a dry, air-tight box or bag. To clean any tarnishing, simply polish with your Edge Only silver cloth to regain a silver finish.

14/18k Gold Plated

Our gold-plated jewellery is made by electroplating 18k gold onto durable brass and silver.
Gold-plated jewellery requires extra care so we encourage you to follow these simple instructions to get the most wear out of your gold-plated pieces.

    Care:

By taking proper care of gold-plated jewelry, you can extend its life and keep it bright and beautiful. Here are some steps to take:

    • Keep gold plated jewelry away from chemicals, oils and makeup. It’s a good idea to always put on your plated jewelry last, after applying makeup, hairspray and perfumes. When doing chores, take off gold plated jewelry as the chemicals in soaps, detergents and cleaners can impact the plating.
    • It’s a good idea to keep your hands clean when handling gold plated jewelry so try to wash them before putting on and taking off your jewelry.
    • Don’t expose gold plated jewelry to chlorinated or salty water. This means taking off the jewelry before swimming in pools, hot tubs or the sea.
    • Body oils and sweat can impact gold plating. To counter this, wipe the jewelry down or clean it frequently to get rid of these pollutants.
    • Cleaning your gold-plated jewelry regularly is important to prolong its life. Use a mild liquid soap or a professional jewelry cleaning solution with warm water when doing this. Avoid any harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Avoid brushing or rubbing the plated jewelry, as this can make it flake, exposing the metal below.
    • Keep gold plated jewelry from rubbing and friction as this will cause the piece to wear down quickly and to flake off. This can happen when you layer gold plated jewelry and they rub against each other. It’s best to wear the piece of jewelry by itself.
    • If irritation occurs due to an allergic reaction try applying a thin coat of clear nail polish over your jewellery. The nail polish will act as a barrier between your skin and the jewellery

    Stainless Steel  / 316L

Stainless steel is a highly durable metal, allowing it to withstand the wear and tear of everyday activities, which can otherwise damage the jewelry. The hard metal resists scratches and corrosion thanks to an invisible layer of chromium that prevents oxidation; this makes it a wonder metal of choice for body jewellery. Most of the surgical grade 316L stainless steel may contain some nickel, but it's generally considered hypoallergenic for most people.

    Advantage of Stainless Steel Jewelry

    •  hypoallergenic
    • It doesn’t tarnish, rust and oxidation
    • It’s highly durable and scratch proof
